The Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) was set up in 1983 as a not-for-profit company under the Companies Act, duly sponsored by the Government of India, in the Ministry of Textiles. The Council as on date has a membership of around 1000 regular exporters of Silk goods whereas more than 1800 exporters have registered with the Council.

ISEPC works closely with the Government of India on policy formulation for the silk sector and provides specialized services to entrepreneurs, expanding global business opportunities for the silk industry in India. Key Markets and Export Destinations

  • Export of silk and silk products from India reached US$ 291.36 million in FY19 and US$ 246.67 million in FY20.
  • The total silk and silk products export accounted for US$ 41.02 million from April to July 2020, and for July 2020 it was US$ 2.47 million.
  • The silk products exported include natural silk yarns, fabrics, made-ups, readymade garments, silk carpets, and silk waste.
  • Fabrics & Made-ups accounted for the largest share in exports, at US$ 138.95 million in FY20, followed by readymade garments at US$ 71.18 million and silk carpet at US$ 20.3 million. Other products accounted for the rest of export earnings.
